CommunityCAD
Your data and privacy
What we store, what's public, and how to get it changed or removed.
This page explains, in plain words, what CommunityCAD keeps about you and who can see it. The Privacy Policy is the full, binding version.
Public and private at a glance#
| Public (anyone can see) | Private (only you, and staff when needed) |
|---|---|
| Username, display name, avatar, bio, location, links | Your email address and date of birth |
| Your public models, comments, ratings, print profiles and published posts | Your Google / GitHub account IDs |
| Your activity graph (how active you were each day) | Your download history |
| Follower and like counts | Who you follow; your notifications |
| Your linked printers | |
| Payments, subscriptions and donations you make | |
| Reports you file; messages you send us |
Donations are never public. Creators see their supporters' names unless the donation was anonymous; the amount is always shown to them.
What we collect, and why#
- Your account: your email and provider IDs from signing in, what you enter on the sign-up screen, and whatever you add to your profile. Your date of birth is kept only to apply age rules and is never shown.
- What you post: models, files, images, descriptions, comments, ratings, print profiles and posts.
- Downloads: each download is recorded, to apply download limits and show your history. For signed-out visitors we store a scrambled (hashed) form of the IP address, not the address itself.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. We keep Stripe's reference numbers, amounts and statuses, never card details.
- Linked printers: the printer's name, permissions and when it was last used. See What the plugin sends.
- Usage statistics: we run our own analytics (Umami, hosted by us, no cookies). It counts page views and a few actions (searches, downloads, uploads, subscriptions), and for signed-in users links them to your account ID and tier, so we can see what's used. It isn't shared with anyone.
- Technical logs: our servers log requests (including IP address and browser) for security and debugging. IP addresses are also briefly used for rate limits.
Cookies#
CommunityCAD itself sets only the cookies it needs:
| Cookie | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
access_token | Keeps you signed in | 7 days |
oauth_* | Protects the sign-in round trip | 10 minutes |
age_block | Only after a date of birth under 13: stops a new account being made from that browser | 1 day |
Your light/dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage. The analytics use no cookies.
Ads: signed-out and Free-tier visitors may see ads. When an ad comes from Google AdSense, Google may set cookies to choose and measure ads; see the Privacy Policy for how to opt out. Members on any tier above Free see no ads.
Photos and location data#
- Print post photos and videos: we remove all embedded data, including GPS location, before anything is shown.
- Avatars and model images: these are currently stored as uploaded. If a photo might contain location data (most phone photos do), remove it before uploading, or take a screenshot of it instead.
Who else handles your data#
We use a small number of service providers to run the site: Google Cloud (hosting, database and file storage, in the US), Stripe (payments), Google and GitHub (sign-in), Google Workspace (email), and Discord (where we receive messages you send through the contact form). The Privacy Policy lists them all.
We never sell your data.
Getting a copy, correcting or deleting#
- Correct your profile any time with Edit profile. For anything you can't edit yourself, email us.
- Get a copy of your data: email contact@communitycad.dev from your account's address. We'll send it within 30 days.
- Remove content: delete your comments and print posts yourself. To remove a print profile or anything else, email us.
Deleting your account#
Self-service deletion is being built. Until then, email contact@communitycad.dev from your account's email address and we'll delete it within 30 days. We'll:
- delete your profile, models, files, images, posts, print profiles and comments;
- disconnect your printers and cancel any subscription or monthly donations;
- keep only what we must by law, such as payment records for tax, with your profile details removed.
Copies other people already downloaded under a model's license can't be recalled. That's how open licenses work. See Choosing a license.
