CommunityCAD for Klipper
What the plugin does
CommunityCAD on your Klipper printer, what it needs, and what it never does.
Describes the private beta build of October 2026. Features may change before launch.
Beta. The plugin is in a private beta. Things will change, some features are still being finished, and you may hit bugs. Please tell us when you do.
CommunityCAD for Klipper puts CommunityCAD inside the web interface you already use to run your printer, Mainsail or Fluidd. Find a model, check it fits, and send it to the printer without leaving the printer's page. When it's printed, you can share how you printed it.
What you can do#
- Browse and search CommunityCAD from the printer, filtered to models that fit your build volume. See Browsing and printing.
- Send files to the printer. Sliced G-code goes to your G-code files, ready to print. STL, OBJ, STEP and unsliced 3MF go to Models on the printer, ready to slice. Starting a print always needs your confirmation.
- Slice on the printer with a built-in OrcaSlicer (optional; needs a 64-bit Raspberry Pi 4 or 5), with your own materials and print profiles. See Slicing, materials and profiles.
- Share prints: the settings you printed with (a print profile) and a post with photos or a timelapse. They appear on the model's page on CommunityCAD. See Sharing prints.
How it fits together#
The plugin has two parts, both on your printer's computer (usually a Raspberry Pi):
- A Moonraker component, which talks to CommunityCAD for you. Your account token stays on the Pi; it never reaches your browser.
- A web interface that appears as a CommunityCAD panel and tabs in Mainsail or Fluidd. Mainsail and Fluidd themselves aren't modified, and uninstalling puts them back exactly as they were.
The plugin only talks to CommunityCAD when you use it. Your printer's settings and print history are read on the Pi and never sent unless you choose to share a print. See What the plugin sends.
If the plugin has a problem, or CommunityCAD is unreachable, your printer keeps working as normal, including a print that's running.
Do I need an account?#
You can browse without one. To download, send or share, you link the printer to a CommunityCAD account (sign in with Google or GitHub). Downloads from the printer count toward the same download limits as the website. See Linking your printer.
