FAQ and contact
Short answers to common questions, and how to reach us.
Basics#
Is CommunityCAD free? Yes. Browsing, uploading, receiving donations and downloading (5 models a day, 20 a week) are free. Paid tiers raise the download limits and remove ads, and you can also earn tiers for free.
Do I need an account? Not to browse, search or download within the Free limits. You need one to upload, comment, rate, like, follow, donate or link a printer. Sign in with Google or GitHub.
Why only Google and GitHub? Can I use a password? No passwords, by design: there's nothing for us to store, leak or reset. See Signing in.
Is the CommunityCAD website open source? No. The CommunityCAD for Klipper plugin is open source (Apache 2.0); the website and service are not.
Models#
Can I sell prints of a model? Only if its license allows commercial use. Check the license on the model page. See Choosing a license.
Are the models checked or safe to print? No. Models are made by other people, and we don't test them. Check every file before you use it. See Printing safely.
What file types can I upload? STEP, STL, OBJ, 3MF, DXF, SVG, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, FreeCAD, G-code and CAM files, and ZIP, up to 50 MB. See Uploading.
Is there a 3D viewer? Not yet. We render preview images of each model automatically.
Someone uploaded my design without permission. What do I do? Send a takedown as described on the DMCA page, or report it. If we imported it from your GitHub, just email us.
How do I claim models imported from my GitHub? Sign in with that GitHub account and choose Claim them on your profile. See Claiming.
Money#
Do creators get the whole donation? Yes. The platform fee and card processing are added on top for the donor. See Donations.
Can I get a refund? No. Subscription payments and donations are final. Cancel a subscription any time to stop future charges; you keep the tier until the end of the month. Payments are processed by Stripe, and CommunityCAD never holds anyone's money.
Why do I see ads? Signed-out visitors and Free-tier members see a few clearly labelled ads. Any tier above Free, including earned ones, removes them. See How CommunityCAD makes money.
Printers#
What's CommunityCAD for Klipper? A plugin for Mainsail and Fluidd that lets you browse CommunityCAD and send models to your printer, slice on the printer, and share your prints. It's in a private beta. See the plugin docs.
Does the plugin send my printer's data to CommunityCAD? Only what you choose to share. Your printer settings and print history stay on the printer. See What the plugin sends.
Your account and data#
How do I delete my account? Email contact@communitycad.dev from your account's email address; we delete it within 30 days. Self-service deletion is coming. See Your data and privacy.
Can I change my username? Not yet. Email us if you need to.
How old do I need to be? At least 13 to have an account. 18+ content is only shown to adults. See Age and 18+ content.
Can I post adult content or firearm files? Yes, if it's legal for you to share and you mark it 18+. Some things aren't allowed at all, such as explosives; see the Community Guidelines.
