Rules, reports and takedowns

Community rules, reporting, moderation, copyright takedowns and printing safety.

The full rules are in the Community Guidelines and the Terms of Service. This page explains how they work in practice.

The rules in brief#

  • Only share what you have the right to share, and respect the license of anything you build on.
  • Be decent. No harassment, hate, threats or personal attacks.
  • No spam, misleading listings, or fake ratings and reviews.
  • Mark adult content 18+: adult content, firearms and firearm parts, and graphic content must be marked. See Age and 18+ content.
  • Nothing illegal: see the Community Guidelines for what isn't allowed at all, including explosives.
  • Upload real, working files with honest descriptions.

Reporting#

Use Report on a model, comment, profile, print post or print profile. Choose a reason:

  • Spam or misleading
  • Copyright infringement
  • Inappropriate content
  • Should be marked 18+
  • Broken or corrupted file
  • Other

Add a short explanation if it helps. Reports go to our moderators and are private; the person you report isn't told who reported them.

For copyright problems, a report flags it to us. A formal DMCA notice is the legal route, and you don't need an account for it. See Copyright takedowns.

What moderators can do#

Depending on what happened, moderators can:

  • dismiss a report that doesn't break the rules;
  • remove a model, comment or post;
  • block uploads or ban commenting for a set number of days;
  • suspend an account for a set time or indefinitely. A suspended account can't sign in and sees the reason.

Creators can also hide prints and print profiles on their own models.

If you think a decision about your account or content was wrong, email contact@communitycad.dev and we'll look again.

If something on CommunityCAD infringes your copyright, send a takedown notice as described on the DMCA page. We remove the material promptly and notify the uploader, who may send a counter-notice. Accounts that repeatedly infringe are closed.

If we imported your model from GitHub and you'd simply like it gone, you don't need a formal notice. Email us and we'll take it down.

Printing safely#

CommunityCAD shares files made by other people. We don't test or check them. Before you make anything:

  • Check the file is for your machine. G-code and other machine files are made for one specific printer or machine. A file made for another one can crash the toolhead, overheat, or damage your machine.
  • Check the settings: temperatures, speeds, dimensions and material.
  • Watch the start of every job, especially the first layer, and never leave a machine running in a way you wouldn't normally.
  • Functional and load-bearing parts (brackets, mounts, anything holding weight or under pressure, anything near heat or electricity) need your own judgement and testing. Ratings and comments are opinions, not certification.
  • Follow your machine maker's safety instructions, and have a working smoke detector near your printer.

Ratings, print profiles and "Printed N times" help you judge a model, but they're not a guarantee. You're responsible for what you make and how you use it. See the Terms of Service.
