CommunityCAD docs: Versions and editing

Versions and editing

Uploading new versions, editing details, visibility, and removing a model.

New versions#

When you improve a model, upload a new version rather than a new model. The link, likes, ratings, comments and download history all stay together, and people can see what changed.

  1. Open your model → Versions tab → Upload new version.
  2. Drop in the new file (same file types, up to 50 MB).
  3. Add a changelog: what changed in this version ("Thicker walls on the mount, fixed hole spacing").
  4. Upload.

Versions are numbered 1, 2, 3… The newest is marked Latest, and:

  • the main Download button gets the latest version;
  • the Files tab shows the latest version's files;
  • if it's a ZIP, its README and LICENSE are picked up again, and new previews are rendered.

Every earlier version stays downloadable from the Versions tab, with its date, size and changelog.

Editing a model#

Choose Edit model in the sidebar of your model page. You can change:

  • the title;
  • the description (Markdown, with a preview). A README from a ZIP takes priority on the Description tab;
  • visibility (public or private);
  • images: add, remove and reorder; the first is the thumbnail;
  • datasheets: add PDF documents;
  • files: use + Add in the Files tab to add files to a folder.

Tags and license can't be changed after upload yet. If you need to change them, email contact@communitycad.dev.

Visibility#

Who can see itIn search
PublicEveryoneYes
PrivateOnly you (and site administrators)No

Anyone else opening a private model's link sees "not found". Private models don't count toward earning tiers. Making a model private hides it from now on; it doesn't recall copies already downloaded.

Deleting a model#

Edit model → Delete, then Confirm delete. Deleting is permanent: the model, its files, versions, images and comments are removed, and its link stops working. Copies people already downloaded remain theirs under the model's license.

If you just want it out of view, make it private instead.

Removed by moderators#

A model removed by moderators, for example after a copyright complaint, shows "Model removed" to everyone. You're notified by email. See Rules, reports and takedowns.
