CommunityCAD
Companies and imported models
Company pages, models imported from public GitHub repos, and claiming yours.
Company pages#
Companies, makerspaces, teams and projects can have a company page that collects the models they publish, at communitycad.dev/companies/<name>. It shows the company's logo, description, website, models and members, and can be followed.
Requesting a company page#
- Signed in, go to Request a company page.
- Enter the name, a short address (lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, e.g.
acme-robotics), a description and your website. - Submit. Our team reviews requests; you can have one pending at a time.
Once approved, you're the page's member and can edit its name, description, website and logo (up to 5 MB). Adding more members isn't self-service yet; email contact@communitycad.dev.
Uploading as a company#
When you belong to a company, the upload forms have Upload on behalf of my company (or Upload as company models in batch). Those models appear on the company's page as well as your own.
Models imported from GitHub#
To give the community a useful library from day one, CommunityCAD imports openly licensed CAD models from public GitHub repositories. Every imported model:
- keeps the license from its repository;
- is credited to its original author, with a View source on GitHub link, in the Source and attribution card;
- is listed under the GitHub organisation's company page, or under Community Archive for repositories owned by individuals.
Imported models are held by a placeholder account until their author claims them.
Claiming a model imported from your GitHub#
If we imported models from your GitHub account, you can claim them.
- Sign in with GitHub, using the GitHub account that owns the repositories. That's how we know they're yours.
- Open your profile. A banner says how many imported models are waiting, with Claim them.
- Choose Claim them.
Once claimed, the models are yours: they move to your profile, you can edit them, add versions and images, receive donations for them, and they count toward earning tiers. The original source link stays, so credit is kept.
Models from repositories owned by a GitHub organisation can't be claimed this way. Email contact@communitycad.dev from an address we can tie to the organisation.
Don't want your model here?#
If we imported something of yours and you'd rather it weren't on CommunityCAD, email contact@communitycad.dev with the link and we'll take it down. No account is needed and no questions are asked.
