Prints, print profiles and posts

Print profiles and print posts shared from printers, and how they show on the site.

Prints are how CommunityCAD shows that a model really works: photos of real prints, and the exact settings people printed with. They're shared from printers running CommunityCAD for Klipper, and appear on each model's page.

A print profile is a record of one print of a model:

  • the printer (its name and type), unless the person chose to hide the name;
  • the material: type, brand and colour;
  • the slicer and its key settings: layer height, walls, infill, temperatures, supports, speeds;
  • the result (completed, cancelled or failed) and print time, unless hidden;
  • who printed it and when.

They're listed on the model's Print profiles tab, where you can see the main settings at a glance or download the full set (JSON). Printed N times in the model's header counts completed, visible print profiles.

Print profiles are shared from the plugin and are public as soon as they're shared. The plugin only ever sends settings from a fixed list, never anything about the owner's network, files or machine. See What the plugin sends.

A post is a photo set or timelapse of a print, with a caption:

  • up to 4 photos, or one timelapse video (up to 90 seconds);
  • a caption of up to 500 characters;
  • shown on the model's Prints tab and on its own page, communitycad.dev/p/….

All embedded data, including location, is removed from photos and videos before they're shown.

Drafts#

Posts can be saved as drafts from the printer. Open the link the plugin gives you, or the post's page, to:

  • edit the caption;
  • Publish it;
  • Discard the draft.

Only you can see your drafts.

First posts are reviewed#

To keep the site free of spam, your first posts are reviewed by our team before they go public. Once you've had two posts approved, new posts go live straight away. Until then, a post shows "Waiting for review" to you. We email you when it's approved (you can turn that off in settings).

Deleting a post#

Open your post → Edit → Delete post. It's removed from the site.

Sharing a post#

A published post's page has a share panel:

  • your phone's own share sheet (including sharing the video file, where your browser supports it);
  • buttons for X, Bluesky, Reddit and Mastodon (it asks for your Mastodon server once);
  • Copy link.

The text is pre-filled, and you can edit it before sharing. Links show a preview card with the photo.

For creators: when someone prints your model#

When someone shares a print of your model, you're told:

  • by email: each time, in a daily digest (the default, sent once a day), or off. Change it in your profile → Notifications;
  • on a page just for you, "Someone printed your model", with their photo and a share panel, so you can show it off.

Your profile's Printers tab shows how often each of your models has been printed.

Keeping your model's page tidy#

As the model's creator, you can hide a post or print profile on your model. It disappears for everyone else; you still see it, marked Hidden, and can unhide it. Use Report for anything that breaks the Community Guidelines.

Privacy settings#

In your profile → Notifications, under print settings:

  • Show my printer name
  • Show print time and result

Both are on by default, and changing them applies to everything you've already shared. Print profiles can't be deleted by their author yet; email contact@communitycad.dev to remove one.
