Klipper plugin docs: Sharing prints

CommunityCAD for Klipper

Sharing prints

Sharing print profiles and posting photos and timelapses of your prints.

Describes the private beta build of October 2026. Features may change before launch.

When you've printed a CommunityCAD model, you can share how it went. That helps the creator, and the next person who prints it. There are two kinds of share:

  • A print profile: the printer, material, slicer settings and result, shown on the model's Print profiles tab.
  • A post: photos or a timelapse with a caption, shown on the model's Prints tab and on its own page you can share anywhere.

Sharing needs the Share print profiles and Post prints permissions; the plugin asks the first time. It also needs Read print history, so it knows what you printed.

What can be shared#

The Share tab lists your finished prints of CommunityCAD files. Prints the plugin didn't know about (for example, from before it was installed) can't be shared. After a print finishes, a one-tap Share banner shows for a day.

Sharing a print profile#

A print profile includes:

  • the model, printer name and type (kinematics), slicer and version;
  • the material: type, brand and colour, from the G-code or from Spoolman if you use it;
  • the print's slicer settings, from a fixed allowlist: layers, widths, walls, infill, supports, adhesion, temperatures, speeds, cooling, retraction and filament;
  • the result (completed, cancelled or failed), print time and filament used.

Before you send it, you see exactly what will be sent. The plugin never sends anything that could identify your setup or contain secrets. Any setting whose name mentions a host, address, URL, key, password, token, webcam, serial port, file path or notes is dropped, as are custom start/end G-code and any value over 200 characters. CommunityCAD applies the same allowlist again and tells you if it dropped anything.

Print profiles are public as soon as you share them, and they can be reported like anything else. You can choose whether your printer name and print time and result are shown, in your CommunityCAD settings. You can share up to 20 print profiles a day.

Keeping a print profile private until you publish it isn't available yet; it's planned.

Posting a print#

A post can have:

  • up to 4 photos (JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 5 MB each). By default you pick them on your phone, and they're resized to 2560 px before upload. Taking a webcam snapshot is off unless you turn it on, and you always see the photo before it's used.
  • one timelapse (MP4, H.264, up to 50 MB and 90 seconds), if you use moonraker-timelapse and turn on Offer timelapse in posts. The Pi uploads it directly.
  • a caption of up to 500 characters.

Location and camera data are removed. CommunityCAD re-encodes every photo and re-packages every video, which strips EXIF data, including GPS location.

Choose Publish, or Save as draft to review, edit and publish it on the website later (the plugin gives you the link). You can post up to 10 times a day.

Your first posts are reviewed. Until you've had two posts approved, a new post waits for a quick review by our team before it goes public. We email you when it's approved (you can turn that off).

Sharing automatically#

Settings → Sharing → After a print:

  • Ask me (default): the banner offers to share.
  • Share automatically: shares 60 seconds after a completed print, with Don't share this one until then. It waits up to 15 minutes for a timelapse.
  • Don't share.

Who can see it: Everyone (default) or Only me. With Only me, posts are saved as drafts for you to review.

If the upload fails#

If CommunityCAD can't be reached, the share waits on the Pi and retries automatically (after 1, 5, 15 and 60 minutes, then every 6 hours). The Share tab shows it as Waiting to upload. If CommunityCAD refuses it (for example, you're over the daily limit), it waits for you, with Retry and Delete.

On the website#

Each post gets a page you can share, with buttons for X, Bluesky, Reddit and Mastodon, a copy link, and your phone's own share sheet. The model's creator is told someone printed their model. See Prints, print profiles and posts.

You can edit or delete your posts on the website. A model's creator can hide shares on their model; moderators can remove anything that breaks the Community Guidelines.
