CommunityCAD for Klipper
Safety
Files are made by other people and aren't checked. What that means for you and your printer.
Describes the private beta build of October 2026. Features may change before launch.
The plugin makes it easy to get a file onto your printer. That makes it more important to understand what it doesn't do.
Files aren't checked#
- Models and G-code on CommunityCAD are made by other people. CommunityCAD doesn't test, check or certify them.
- A file made for a different printer can damage yours: a wrong bed size can crash the toolhead, and wrong temperatures can damage the hotend or start a fire.
- The plugin's printer match and fit checks are aids, read from the file's header and your build volume. They can be wrong, and they're not a guarantee that a file is right for your machine.
- Ratings, comments, print profiles and "Printed N times" on CommunityCAD are other people's experiences, not certification.
You're in charge of your printer#
- Starting a print always needs your confirmation. Sending or saving a file never starts it.
- Watch every print, especially the first layer. Don't leave a printer running unattended in a way you wouldn't for a print you'd sliced yourself.
- Check sliced files before you print them: the printer they were made for, nozzle size, material and temperatures.
- Parts that hold weight, protect people, or sit near heat or electricity need your own judgement and testing.
- Follow your printer maker's safety instructions, and keep a working smoke detector near the printer.
What the plugin never does#
- It never flashes firmware.
- It never edits
printer.cfg. When it needs something there (such as printer facts), it shows you the lines to add yourself. - The only command it sends to your printer is starting or queueing a file you chose, after you confirm.
- It never imports or runs slicer post-processing scripts.
- It never reads your webcam or timelapses unless you turn on the setting that uses them.
The notices you'll see#
- When installing, the installer explains that the plugin comes with no warranty and you're responsible for your printer, and asks you to agree.
- Before the first send on each printer, the plugin shows the same points and asks you to accept them. If the notice changes, you're asked again.
The plugin is open source under the Apache 2.0 license, provided without warranty. Your use of CommunityCAD is covered by the Terms of Service, which say the same: you're responsible for your printer and for what you print.
