Klipper plugin docs: Linking your printer

CommunityCAD for Klipper

Linking your printer

Connect the printer to your CommunityCAD account with a short code, and what each permission allows.

Describes the private beta build of October 2026. Features may change before launch.

Linking connects your printer to your CommunityCAD account, so it can download and share under your name. You approve it on the website. The printer never sees your Google or GitHub login, and you can unlink it at any time.

  1. On the printer, open CommunityCAD and choose Start sign-in. The plugin shows a code like ABCD-EFGH and a QR code.
  2. On your phone or computer, scan the QR code, or go to communitycad.dev/link and type the code. Sign in with Google or GitHub if you aren't already; the code is kept.
  3. Check the request. Only approve it if you started linking on your own printer just now.
  4. Optionally change the printer name (it defaults to the Pi's hostname). The name is how the printer appears in your account.
  5. Choose Approve. The printer finishes connecting within a few seconds.

Codes expire after 10 minutes; the printer offers a new one. Codes use no easily confused characters (no 0, O, 1 or I).

Permissions#

Each linked printer has only the permissions you approved:

PermissionLets the printer
Browse and search modelsSearch CommunityCAD and read model pages, including your own private models
Download filesDownload files to the printer. Each download counts toward your download limit.
Share print profilesShare print profiles under your name: printer, material, print result and slicer settings
Post printsPost photos, videos and captions under your name, including drafts you review on the site

A new link asks only for browse and download. The first time you share a print, the printer asks for the two sharing permissions.

Adding permissions later#

When the printer needs more, it shows a new code. On /link the page says Add permissions, lists what's being added and what the printer can already do, and offers Allow or Don't allow. The printer stays linked either way, and nothing changes if you decline.

The printer stores its access token in a file only the printer's user can read, outside every folder Mainsail or Fluidd can show. CommunityCAD stores only a fingerprint of it, so it can't be read back from our side. The token never reaches your browser.

Managing linked printers#

On CommunityCAD, go to your profile → Printers (or communitycad.dev/settings). For each printer you can see when it was linked and last used, rename it, or disconnect it.

Disconnecting signs the printer out immediately. The next time it tries something, it shows "This printer was disconnected from your account" with Reconnect.

Unlinking from the printer#

In the plugin's Settings, choose Unlink. The printer revokes its token on CommunityCAD, then deletes it locally. If CommunityCAD can't be reached, the local copy is deleted anyway. If that happens, disconnect the printer on the website too.

Several printers#

Each printer is linked separately and has its own token, permissions and name. One account can have as many as you like. When you link a second printer, the plugin reminds you which account your other printer uses, so you can link both to the same one.
